Comments on San Diego "guidelines"
for candidates for ministry |
| Former GA Moderator Herbert Valentine comments on the
San Diego "guidelines" [6-26-07]
Gene, once again with dispassion, wonderfully and clearly
dissects a document, that was worthy of dissection prior to being its being
adopted. What is going on in San Diego that they would set a standard that
invites lockstep belief and check-off orthodoxy? Why was it not challenged
or at least vetted in theological circles of academia before adoption? This
document, I have read it, comes very close to theological "painting by
numbers." I guess I shouldn't be amazed at the nature of the document; it is
an ever recurring theme in our times; the attempt to codify and regularize
the non-codifiable as regulatory. What has happened to mystery?
