Tue Nov 7, 2000
Friends:
The Advocacy Committee on Women's Concerns (ACWC) at
its fall meeting October 26-29 in Baltimore, Maryland, voted unanimously
to oppose the removal of the phrase from the Book of Order, G-5.0103
"race, ethnic origin, worldly condition, or any other reason not
related to profession of faith," and to urge the Presbyteries to
defeat Overture OO-A.
ACWC is a contemporary fulfillment of the commitment
made in the Articles of Agreement formulated in 1981 to ensure advocacy
and monitoring functions for justice for women.
Formed in 1993 by a mandate of the 205th General
Assembly ACWC holds the strong conviction that this phrase must remain a
part of the Book of Order.
We ask that you help communicate this action to the
PCUSA and our Presbyteries.
