Sponsored by

The Executive Committee of The Witherspoon Society

WHEN: Wednesday, May 8, 2002
2:00 pm - 8:00 pm

WHERE: Peace Presbyterian Church, 3060 River Rd., Eugene, OR

Please join us for a 35th anniversary celebration and dialogue on the Confession of 1967, a confession rich in the spirit of social justice and reconciliation. The Witherspoon Society is focusing on the Confession's challenge and relevance to the issues facing our church today. Building on a national conference held in February, the Society is now sponsoring regional workshops across the country to further reflect on this vital document of our tradition. Attendees will be challenged to consider how progressive Presbyterians can reclaim confessionally the denomination's social justice agenda.

Keynote speaker will be the Reverend Bruce Cameron, who is Pastor of Peace Presbyterian Church in Eugene, Oregon. A Presbyterian minister since 1978, he has worked in installed and interim pastorates in Oregon and Montana. He has been involved in numerous peacemaking and social justice ministries since the 1960's. He currently serves on the Leadership Team of Presbyterians Affirming Reproductive Options and the Board of the Presbyterian Health, Education, and Welfare Association. In addition to his seminary degree, Bruce holds a Masters degree from the Rutgers University Graduate School of Social Work in Social Policy Analysis. And, he holds an honors diploma from Western Culinary Institute in Portland, Oregon.

Facilitator will be the Reverend Kent Winters-Hazelton, pastor of Claremont Presbyterian Church, Claremont, CA. Winters-Hazelton is lead strategist and member-at-large of the Executive Committee of the Witherspoon Society.

The cost for the event is $20 including dinner.
